چکیده

This paper proposes a new tactile display to present shear deformation to the skin of human finger. For presenting the shear deformation of the finger, we fabricated a three-dimensional moving stage driven by the hydraulic actuators. For presenting different deformation under the condition of the same normal pressure, we used an air suction pad that can suck air. Using this air pad and the hydraulic display system, we performed experiments to present shear deformation. From these experiments, we could present large deformation under the condition of the same normal pressure.

Amplifying shear deformation of finger pad increases tracing distances

Human sensory inputs and motor outputs mutually affect one another. We pursue the idea that a tactile interface can influence human motor outputs by intervening in sensory-motor relationships. This study focuses on the shear deformation of a finger pad while a person traces a line or circle. During these tracing movements, the finger pads were deformed using a tactile interface. The tracing dis...

Design of a Tactile Shear Force Prototype Display

This document describes the hardware design of a tactile shear force display. The design parameters have been chosen by inquiries of psychophysical requirements and available actuator technologies. Furthermore the hardware setup of the prototype is described. This display will be used to investigate the perceptual effects of shear force to the human finger pulp.

Wearable finger pad deformation sensor for tactile textures in frequency domain by using accelerometer on finger side

In this study, we set out to develop a method for estimating the fine and fast shear deformation of a finger pad, that is, the palm side of a fingertip, as it scans the surface of a material. Using a miniature accelerometer, we measured the acceleration at the radial skin, the deformation of which is accompanied by the shear deformation of the finger pad. Using a transfer function, as specified...

Estimation of Finger Pad Deformation Based on Skin Deformation Transferred to the Radial Side

Techniques to measure the deformation of finger pad when rubbing material surfaces are important for the analysis of textural sensations and development of tactile texture displays. However, such measurements are difficult because when the finger pad is in contact with the material surfaces, it is not exposed for measurement. We developed a technique to estimate finger pad shear deformation by ...

Objective Evaluation of Tactile Sensation for Tactile Communication

We humans use the five senses of “sight, sound, touch, taste and smell,” to interact with other people and various objects around us. While remote communication with video and speech have become familiar to us lately, DoCoMo is currently working on research aiming at finding ways to communicate via tactile sensation, which is believed to be important in terms of information volume, which comes ...
